Hypnotherapy:
torquaymedicalhealthwellness.com.au/Hypnotherapy is a very useful tool used by some Doctors, Psychologists and therapists to help bring about lasting change in a person’s well-being.
It is a safe and comfortable form of therapy that uses a person’s ability to relax and to be focused to aid therapeutic change.
It can be compared to a special state of mind where you can learn things more easily. It can be used to change the way you think, feel or act. It can also be used to help you interact and relate more easily with other people, to boost self-confidence, to recall distant /past memories or to help you settle unwanted symptoms.
Medical Hypnosis has been approved as a therapeutic practice by the Australian Medical Association for Doctors (like myself) who have trained with the Australian College of Medical Hypnosis.
Medical hypnotherapy has been very useful for patients of mine who wish to address:
- Quitting Smoking (and other addictions)
- Weight Loss
- Chronic pain (eg fibromyalgia, arthritis, neuropathic pain)
- Stress, Anxiety, Depression, OCD, PTSD, Grief
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Insomnia
- Fears or Phobias (eg fear of flying, spiders, needles, anaesthetics)
- Relationship Issues
- Stress Management For Examinations
- Unwanted Habits (e.g. nail biting, picking, gambling)
- Nocturnal Enuresis (bed wetting)
- Psychosomatic Symptoms (ie Psychosomatic disorder is a psychological condition involving the occurrence of physical symptoms, usually lacking a medical explanation)
Hypnosis is simply a form of focused relaxation and it is very important to realise that the patient is always "in control" during a medical hypnosis session.
- you are not "unconscious", you never lose the ability to maintain control and you can always end the session if you are ever uncomfortable or uneasy.
- it is not a form of time travel, or anything else mysterious!
- in the relaxed and focused state memory functions are simply enhanced.
- the patient actually directs their own hypnosis session, and the Dr / facilitator simply guides them through the process.
- successful hypnosis doesn't require you to fall asleep or to fall into a deep trance (as you may have seen on the TV or Youtube), it simply requires you to be able to listen and to focus on what is being said.
A session of medical hypnosis usually requires:
- a pre-hypnosis appointment to help discuss and plan what it is that you wish to treat or change or improve in your life.
- the actual hypnosis session usually lasts 45-60 minutes.
- occasionally a second hypnosis session is needed, and sometimes more.
A variety of techniques are used to within the hypnosis session, including progressive muscle relaxation, guided visualisation, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Regression Therapy and Gestalt techniques.
I can also access an item number under Medicare for many of these sessions to assist with the cost.
No referral or Management Plan is needed.
Please contact or phone us at the Torquay Health and Wellness Clinic to discuss all costs further.
